how to measure your horse for a double show bridle

Before You Measure A Horse for a 2 in 1 Double Bridle:

  • You will need a flexible measuring tape
  • Make sure your bridle is done up on the correct holes with the bits you will be using. Bits can radically change the size of bridle you require
  • Measure your already assembled bridle - no need to disassemble and make flat


Measuring A Horse for a 2 in 1 Double Bridle:

  1. Take your measuring tape and measure your bradoon bit (snaffle) from end to end. Start at the corner of the bit where the leather attaches. Take the tape over the crown to the bit on the other side. Do not include the ring in the measurement, only your bridle.
  2. Now take the tape and do the same for the bit (curb). Measure the top of the bit over the crown to the top of the bit on the other side.
    Please note: We recommend as a general rule to purchase a bradoon cheekpieces one size smaller than your curb as the bradoon bits sits higher in the mouth. However, confirm your sizes from your measurements.
  3. Measure the browband from end to end
  4. Measure the circumference of the noseband. Do it up on the hole it is normally done up on. Start at the buckle and measure on the outside of the noseband around the circumference back to the buckle.

This Black gel 2 in 1 Combination Double bridle is hand crafted from the finest quality English leather and padded with our unique gel to create one of the most luxurious and comfortable bridles on the market. 

How it works

  • First select your crown piece style in the required size.
  • Select your bradoon hanger in the size required.
  • Select your weymouth cheekpieces in the size required.
  • Select a browband from our large range of styles in your required size.
  • Select a suitable noseband from our range that matches your style preferences and schooling needs in the required size.
  • Select a pair of reins (optional) in the size you need from our range of options for both your snaffle and weymouth bits. 

This bridle uses our tried and tested gel padding for an unsurpassed level of comfort for your horse. Padding the headpiece, nosebands, and some browband options, this gel is activated by your horse's body heat and moulds to the shape of their head with use. 

Our 2 in 1 combination crown piece allows you to change between a snaffle and double bridle with ease.  The headpiece features our unique gel padding and is anatomically cut back behind the ears to reduce pressure. The bradoon hanger sits over the top of the main crown piece, secured in place by 3 low profile keepers. All other straps in this bridle, including the noseband, buckle on either side of the headpiece improving fit and further reducing pressure over the poll. With the removal of this bradoon hanger strap, the bridle can be used as a standard snaffle bridle, ideal for anyone looking for a versatile bridle or has a horse just starting to school in a double. The cheek pieces and bradoon hanger are 4/8" wide creating a slimline, elegant picture suited to every horse. 

With the ability to select each bridle component in any size, this bridle will allow you an unsurpassed level of fit that cannot be found in standard off the shelf bridles.
